  • Product Introduction

Woven gabion mesh is a mechanically twisted wire mesh made from low-carbon steel wire with high strength, ductility and corrosion resistance, available in galvanized and PVC/PE coated finishes. Filled with stones, it forms box-, container- or basket-shaped gabion structures that intercept and fix soil particles, making it one of the most reliable solutions for soil erosion control, river training and slope protection.

    Material & Coating

    • Core wire: low-carbon steel (Q195/Q235) — high tensile strength and ductility
    • Galvanized: heavy zinc coating for standard corrosion environments
    • PVC/PE coated: polymer sheath over galvanized wire for aggressive / freshwater exposure
    • Weave: double-twisted hexagonal mesh, mechanically woven for structural integrity

    Application

    River & Flood Control

Riverbank erosion by currents is a leading cause of flooding and soil loss. Woven gabion mesh protects river beds and banks over the long term, making it a proven solution for flood control and river guidance.

    Channel, Canal & Riverbed Stabilization

For natural river restoration and artificial channel excavation, gabions stabilize slopes and riverbeds, regulate flow, reduce water loss, and help maintain water quality and the local environment.

    Riverbank & Slope Protection

Gabion baskets and slope-toe protection are among the most successful applications, fully leveraging the structure’s flexibility and permeability.

    Road Drainage & Civil Engineering

Flat-laid (riverbed) gabions suit large flat or sloping erosion-prone areas such as riverbeds, slowing scour and soil loss. They are widely used in road drainage systems and general civil engineering.

    Environmental & Landscaping Use

As awareness of its ecological value grows, gabion mesh is expanding into landscaping, retaining walls, and habitat restoration.

    FAQ

Q: What is woven gabion mesh made of?

A: Low-carbon steel wire, galvanized and optionally sheathed in PVC/PE, mechanically woven into a double-twisted hexagonal mesh.

Q: What is the difference between galvanized and PVC coated gabion mesh?

A: Galvanized uses a zinc coating for general corrosion resistance; PVC/PE coating adds a polymer layer for superior protection in freshwater, saline or aggressive environments and extends service life.

Q: What are the standard gabion box sizes?

     A: Common box dimensions include 2×1×1 m, 3×1×1 m, 4×1×1 m and 2×1×0.5 m, with custom sizes available. Mesh sizes are typically 60×80, 80×100 or 100×120 mm.

Q: How long does gabion mesh last?

A: Service life depends on coating and environment — heavy galvanized typically 20–30 years; PVC/PE coated systems last longer in aggressive conditions.

Q: What is gabion mesh used for?

A: River and flood control, channel/riverbed stabilization, riverbank and slope protection, road drainage, and landscaping/erosion control.

Plastic coated wire — also called PVC wire or PE wire — is one of the most versatile binding and fencing materials we make. At Horizon Metal we start with high-quality black annealed wire or galvanized steel wire, then fuse a uniform vinyl (PVC) or polyethylene (PE) coating onto the surface through deep processing. The result is a product that doesn’t just look cleaner than bare galvanized wire — it lasts several times longer outdoors.
