Plastic coated wire — also called PVC wire or PE wire — is one of the most versatile binding and fencing materials we make. At Horizon Metal we start with high-quality black annealed wire or galvanized steel wire, then fuse a uniform vinyl (PVC) or polyethylene (PE) coating onto the surface through deep processing. The result is a product that doesn’t just look cleaner than bare galvanized wire — it lasts several times longer outdoors.
We’re a wire manufacturer based in Anping, Hebei, the wire mesh hub of China, and we export PVC coated wire to 60+ countries across agriculture, construction, and industrial supply chains. Whether you need standard green binding wire or a custom RAL color for a landscaping project, we can match it.
What Is PVC Coated Wire?
PVC coated wire is steel wire wrapped in a bonded layer of polyvinyl chloride. The coating isn’t painted on — it’s thermally fused, which is why it stays put through bending, cutting, and years of weather exposure.
How the Coating Process Works
- Core wire selection — low-carbon black annealed wire or pre-galvanized wire (Q195/Q235 grade)
- Surface prep — cleaning and, where used, galvanizing for double corrosion protection
- PVC/PE extrusion — the plastic is applied in a continuous, even layer (typically 0.4–1.0 mm per side)
- Cooling & inspection — coating thickness, adhesion, and color are checked before packing
The galvanized-plus-PVC combination is what gives the wire its real edge in coastal and high-humidity environments: even if the surface is scratched, the zinc layer underneath still protects the steel.
Product Parameters
PVC coated Wire Wire thickness 0.55mm-5.0mm Coat PVC or PE Color green, black, white, gray and etc (on request). Tensile strength 350Mpa-550Mpa Weight 0.5-500kg Key Advantages of PVC Coated Wire
Corrosion resistance that actually lasts. The plastic layer seals the steel away from moisture, oxygen, and salt. In side-by-side field use, PVC coated wire typically outlives plain galvanized wire by 3–5×.
UV-stable, won’t crack or fade. Our PVC/PE formula includes anti-aging additives, so the color holds up under direct sun instead of going chalky after one season.
Safer to handle. The smooth coating removes the sharp burrs you get on bare wire — better for workers, and safer around livestock and garden plants.
Flexible bending without peeling. Deep-processed bonding means you can tie, twist, and shape the wire without the coating splitting off.
Color that fits the job. Green disappears into landscaping; black reads as premium security fencing; white suits decorative and event use. Custom RAL colors are available for brand-matched projects.
Lower lifetime cost. Higher upfront price than bare wire is offset by fewer replacements and near-zero maintenance over a 15–20 year service life.
Applications of PVC Coated Wire
Agriculture & Gardening
Vineyard and orchard trellising, plant support and tie wire, garden fencing, tree guarding, and farm boundary marking. The non-toxic coating is safe around crops and animals.
Construction & Civil Engineering
Core material for gabion boxes and mattresses, chain link fence manufacturing, reinforcement mesh binding, and concrete formwork tie wire.
Industrial & Commercial
Processing into welded mesh and hexagonal mesh, cable armoring, warehouse strapping and bundling, and Christmas decoration / craft wire.
Coastal & Marine Use
Salt-resistant fencing for docks and piers, aquaculture cages, and seawall protection — the galvanized-plus-PVC build handles constant salt exposure far better than single-layer coatings.
Packaging & Shipping
- Standard packing: inner plastic film + outer woven bag, seaworthy and moisture-proof
- Custom packing: palletized rolls, carton boxes, or per customer requirement
- Container loading: rolls stacked and strapped for safe transit
- Packing according to customer's requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is PVC coated wire and how is it different from galvanized wire?
PVC coated wire is galvanized or black steel wire with a bonded plastic (PVC or PE) layer fused on top through deep processing. Galvanized wire relies solely on its zinc coating for corrosion protection. PVC coated wire adds a second barrier — the plastic layer seals out moisture and UV, giving it a significantly longer outdoor service life and the option to choose a color that blends with the installation environment.
Q2: What wire diameters and colors are available?
Core wire diameters range from 0.55 mm to 5.0 mm. Standard colors are green (RAL 6005), black, white, and gray. Custom RAL colors and packaging specifications are available to match your project requirements.
Q3: What are the main applications of PVC coated wire?
Agriculture: trellising, garden fencing, plant protection. Construction: gabion boxes, chain link fence, welded mesh, and reinforcement binding. Industrial: strapping, bundling, cable armoring. Coastal and marine: salt-resistant fencing for docks, piers, and aquaculture enclosures.
Q4: How long does PVC coated wire last outdoors?
Under typical outdoor conditions, PVC coated wire has a service life of 15 to 20 years. Salt spray testing confirms corrosion resistance exceeding 1,000 hours. Lifespan varies by installation environment — coastal and high-UV conditions may require specification review.
Q5: Can I get custom diameters, colors, and specifications?
Yes. Wire diameter, PVC/PE coating thickness, color (including custom RAL), core material grade, roll weight, and packing can all be adjusted to your project specifications. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
Q6: How is the wire packaged for export shipping?
Standard export packing: inner plastic film + outer woven bag, fully seaworthy and moisture-proof. Palletized rolls and carton options are available. All packing methods are designed for safe container transport over long-distance sea freight.
Q7: What certifications does your PVC coated wire have?
Our PVC coated wire is CE and SGS certified. Production follows ISO 9001 quality management protocols. Key performance parameters are tested in-house and third-party verified, including salt spray resistance, tensile strength, and coating adhesion.
Q8: What is the typical production lead time?
Standard production lead time is 7 to 15 days after deposit confirmation, adjustable based on order volume and production schedule. We confirm the exact delivery date when your order is placed.
Q9: Can I order less than a full container?
Yes. We serve both full-container export orders and smaller trial or spot purchases. Contact our sales team to discuss the most cost-effective shipping option for your order size.
Q10: Do you provide samples before a bulk order?
Yes. We offer samples so you can verify wire diameter, coating quality, color accuracy, and mechanical flexibility before placing a full order. Reach out via email or WhatsApp to request samples.
