Definition
Galvanized wire is a type of steel wire processed with a galvanization procedure to achieve outstanding corrosion resistance. It is primarily manufactured from low-carbon steel wire rods (e.g., Q195, Q235). The core production process consists of coating the surface of drawn steel wire with a zinc layer via two common methods: hot-dip galvanization and electro-galvanization. This zinc coating serves as a protective barrier, isolating the steel substrate from air and moisture, thereby effectively preventing rust and corrosion.
Core Parameters
Item Key Information Material Low-carbon steel wire rod (Q195/Q235 as mainstream options) Galvanization Methods Hot-dip galvanization; Electro-galvanization Common Wire Diameter 0.3mm - 6.0mm (commonly used range: 0.5mm - 4.0mm) Tensile Strength 400 - 650MPa Zinc Coating Weight Electro-galvanized: 8 - 20 g/m²; Hot-dip galvanized: 40 - 300 g/m² Corrosion Resistance Hot-dip galvanized wire has much stronger corrosion resistance than electro-galvanized wire Main Characteristics
Excellent Corrosion Resistance
The surface zinc coating isolates the steel from corrosive media like air and water. Even if the coating is slightly damaged, zinc acts as a sacrificial anode to protect the steel substrate from rusting, significantly extending the wire’s service life.
High Strength & Toughness
Compared with black annealed wire, galvanized wire has higher hardness and tensile strength. It maintains good toughness while being resistant to breakage, and can withstand certain external pulling forces.
Diverse Surface States
Electro-galvanized wire: Smooth, bright surface with a uniform zinc coating.
Hot-dip galvanized wire: Slightly rough surface with a thicker zinc layer, ideal for harsh outdoor environments.
Wide Adaptability
It performs stably in humid, saline-alkali and other harsh environments, and is not easily affected by climate and site conditions.
Main Applications
Construction & Infrastructure
Used for manufacturing welded wire mesh, fences and guardrails; also for binding structural components in outdoor construction projects. Hot-dip galvanized wire is particularly suitable for highway guardrails, slope protection mesh and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Agricultural Field
Made into bird nets, fruit tree support wires, greenhouse frame binding wires and livestock fences. Its corrosion resistance ensures long-term use in rainy, muddy field conditions.
Daily & Packaging Industry
Serves as high-quality binding wire for hardware, cables and heavy goods packaging; also processed into daily necessities like clothes hangers and wire baskets.
Industrial Manufacturing
Acts as raw material for steel cables, chain link fences and other metal products, widely applied in transportation, mining and environmental protection fields.
Packaging
Standard Packaging
Wound into coils, with inner plastic film for moisture-proofing and outer woven bag or paper tube for anti-collision protection. Coil weight: 25kg, 50kg or customized as required.
Export Packaging
For long-distance sea transportation, coils are placed on wooden pallets and fully wrapped with plastic film for reinforcement. This prevents moisture, rust and deformation during transit.
Special Packaging
Thin galvanized wire is packaged in small spools (1kg - 5kg per spool), suitable for retail and small-scale usage scenarios.
